I've been going on a bit lately about how a disarmed populace is in danger of being dominated by a relatively few people who aren't. The current situation in Burma illustrates once again that those that control the firepower control the situation. No matter how right your cause, how non-violently you espouse it or how numerous your side is, a relatively few men with guns trumps all your noble intentions. Paul Marks at Samizdata says it well.
Update: The government has guns. You don't. This is what happens.
Another good point.
